Turning 50, Escaping to Paradise, and Life’s Curveballs
I just turned 50 — a milestone I thought I’d mark with a big celebration. We had a trip planned. We’d made an awesome little video. We’d packed the motorhome and were ready to go. But instead, life had other plans. My uncle rang, he was suddenly taken into hospital and diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Overnight, our birthday plans shifted from parties and candles to hospital visits and difficult conversations.
It’s not the 50th I imagined. The entire weekend was a total disaster and the best part was when it was over! But this has reminded me, once again, that life is both fragile and precious — and that joy and grief often walk hand in hand. We know only too well how this journey unfolds and we have done it once, we can do it again. Because family is important.

In the middle of all this upheaval, something truly uplifting is still happening: Friday August 29th, our immersive Maldives travel film premieres on YouTube. We didn't know when we made it, that it would be right on time for when we needed it!
🎥✨ We poured our hearts into this project — filming at OZEN Life Maadhoo, capturing soft white sands, hammocks, turquoise waters, reef sharks, herons, sunsets, and weaving it all together with original tropical chillout music. Our goal was simple: to create a film that makes you feel like you’re really there. A little moment of escape. A chance to breathe, dream, and be transported.

Chasing Paradise
But that’s not all. My 50th birthday DJ set, which we also filmed in the Maldives and called Chasing Paradise, will premiere in September. It’s a glorious film — absolutely mesmerising — its the kind of magic we hoped to create where music and visuals flow together like art. It truly is something special. I knew when we were filming it that we were probably in the eye of the storm, so I’m deeply grateful that we got to experience paradise fully in that moment. These films will now carry us through the difficult times ahead, as reminders of joy, beauty, and presence.

Our plan is still to create more immersive films, soundscapes and DJ Sets from around the world — journeys that let you travel without leaving home, and that bring a little magic into everyday life. At this point we’re not sure when we can travel next, but rest assured, we will not be giving up! The path to the dream may change, we might lose people along the way, but we still truly believe in what we’re creating and most importantly each other.
So while my 50th birthday didn’t unfold the way we expected, together we continue to step into this new chapter with gratitude. Gratitude for the years behind us, for the creativity that fuels us, for the community we’re building, the people we’ve met so far (Big Hello to Suzanne!) and for the reminder that even in hard times, life, beauty and joy are always worth celebrating.
